Best Home Library App for Android (2026)

Sophie Michaud1 min read

Android gets fewer dedicated home library apps than iOS. BookBuddy — maybe the most polished library management app available — is Apple-only. That stings a bit.

The good news: what does exist on Android is solid. And Android's better PWA support means web-based apps actually feel more native here than they do on iPhone.

CLZ Books has a native Play Store app with the full feature set. Functional parity with iOS. Strong scanning, deep cataloguing, batch editing. If you want maximum power on Android, this is it. 100 books free, $24.95/year.

Libib is native on Android. 5,000 books free. Solid scanning. Practical interface. If you want to catalogue a large library without paying, Libib on Android is the easiest path.

Handy Library is Android-native and simple. Covers scanning and basic cataloguing. Fewer features than CLZ or Libib, but it does the basics without asking much of you.

Plumerie is coming to Google Play later this month — currently in closed beta. Until then, install it from Chrome with one tap. On Android, PWAs get push notifications, home screen installation, offline access, and their own task-switcher entry. The gap between "downloaded from the Play Store" and "installed from Chrome" is nearly invisible in daily use. Family sharing, lending tracking, 45 languages, AI enrichment. 100 books free, €29.99/year for Plus.

Not available on Android: BookBuddy (Apple only), Delicious Library (Mac only).

PWAs on Android — actually good

This is worth knowing. Android's Chrome treats PWAs as proper apps. Install Plumerie from Chrome and it shows up in your app drawer, gets its own icon, works offline, sends notifications. You wouldn't know it wasn't from the Play Store unless someone told you. A native Plumerie app for Android is coming to Google Play later this month.

Fewer native library apps on Android. But the ones that work here tend to work everywhere — and that's worth something.

The verdict

For maximum features: CLZ Books. For the biggest free tier: Libib. For family sharing, lending, and multilingual support — especially in a mixed-device household where some people have iPhones and some have Android: Plumerie works identically on both. Full comparison →
